From September 2010 to April 2011, OPTICA had the pleasure of welcoming Renée Jespersen, second-year student in art history and member of the Institute for Co-operative education at Concordia University: “It was simply the most incredible experience an art history student could ever ask for. My work in the archives really opened my eyes to the prolific nature of Montreal, Quebec, and Canada as thriving artistic environments. I was invited to collaborate with four of the most caring and knowledgeable individuals, who also taught me a lot about the administrative duties of an artist-run centre.†Joining our ambitious project of processing and highlighting our archives, Renée first completed the transfer of previously selected documents to our virtual database (1980-1997), and helped select works from our archives for illustrating decades in 2011-2012. She was then in charge of the whole process up to putting them online.
